We've just been awarded funding from Arts Council England to run a creative writing pilot project with survivors of strokes and brain injuries.

I've been working with Professor Sebastian Groes at the University of Wolverhampton to explore how creative activities can patients after a stroke or brain injury. We discovered that, although plenty of people are using music or drama as rehabilitative tools, very few people are exploring the potential of writing and storytelling to aid recovery. Our hunch is that creative writing can have a double benefit, helping people regain language skills and allowing them to reframe their experiences and rediscover their creative voice.
We'll be piloting a series of creative writing exercises, working in collaboration with speech and language therapists and writing for wellbeing practitioners. You can read more about the project here.
